Quick answer
Jobscan is the established market leader with LinkedIn optimization, cover letter tools, and a large feature set — at $49.95/month. ATSChecker focuses narrowly on ATS readiness: browser-local parsing for privacy, job-specific keyword matching, and Pro at $9.99/month with results in about 60 seconds.
Choose Jobscan if you want an all-in-one career platform and do not mind cloud-based processing. Choose ATSChecker if privacy, price, and fast job-specific scans matter most. For a broader landscape view, see our best ATS resume checkers roundup.
What each tool does
Both ATSChecker and Jobscan help job seekers understand whether a resume aligns with a specific job posting before an applicant tracking system (ATS) ranks it. They extract keywords from job descriptions, compare them against resume text, and flag formatting issues that break parsing.
Jobscan launched in 2012 and expanded into a career toolkit: resume scans, LinkedIn profile reviews, cover letter generation, and job tracking. Its brand recognition is high, and many career coaches recommend it by default.
ATSChecker takes a narrower approach. The core workflow is upload resume, paste job description, get a match score and actionable fixes — all with parsing that runs in your browser. There is no account required for basic scans, and Pro unlocks unlimited job-specific matching. Learn more about how scoring works in our ATS score explained guide.
Feature comparison
| Feature | ATSChecker | Jobscan |
|---|---|---|
| Job-specific keyword matching | Core feature (paste any JD) | Core feature |
| Where parsing runs | Browser-local (privacy-first) | Cloud servers |
| Typical scan time | ~60 seconds | ~30–90 seconds |
| Formatting analysis | Yes (columns, headers, tables) | Yes |
| LinkedIn optimization | No | Yes |
| Cover letter tools | No | Yes |
| Free tier | Yes (limited scans) | Yes (5 scans/month) |
| Paid plan price | $9.99/mo Pro | $49.95/mo Premium |
Jobscan wins on breadth: LinkedIn, cover letters, and job tracking in one subscription. ATSChecker wins on focus and cost for applicants who already have a resume and need fast, private, job-specific feedback before each application.
Privacy and data handling
Resume files contain personal data: names, phone numbers, employment history, and sometimes salary figures. How a checker processes that data matters, especially if you are currently employed and scanning discreetly.
ATSChecker parses resumes locally in your browser using client-side JavaScript. Your file is not uploaded to ATSChecker servers for the core scan workflow. This architecture is designed for job seekers who want to avoid storing sensitive documents in yet another cloud database.
Jobscan operates as a traditional SaaS product. You upload or paste your resume, and processing happens on their infrastructure. Jobscan publishes a privacy policy and security practices, but your content does transit and reside on their systems — standard for most career tools, but worth knowing if privacy is a priority.
Pricing breakdown
Price is the sharpest difference between these two tools. As of July 2026:
- ATSChecker Free: Basic scans with browser-local parsing. Pro at $9.99/month unlocks unlimited job-specific matching and full report details.
- Jobscan Free: Five scans per month. Premium at $49.95/month unlocks unlimited scans plus LinkedIn and cover letter features.
Over a six-month job search, Jobscan Premium costs roughly $300 versus about $60 for ATSChecker Pro. If you only need resume-to-JD matching and formatting checks, that gap is significant. If you want LinkedIn optimization bundled in, Jobscan's higher price may be justified.

How we tested
We ran both tools through a structured comparison in June 2026. Here is exactly what we did so you can reproduce or scrutinize our conclusions.
Test corpus
- 12 anonymized real resumes across software engineering, marketing, and operations roles
- 6 corresponding job descriptions sourced from public Greenhouse and Lever postings
- 3 intentionally broken resumes: two-column Canva layout, image-heavy PDF, and header/footer contact info
Procedure
- Pasted the same job description into both tools for each resume-JD pair
- Recorded match scores, missing keywords, and formatting warnings
- Timed each scan from submission to full report (median of 3 runs)
- Checked whether each tool flagged the three broken layouts as high-risk
Results summary
- Both tools flagged the same top 5–8 missing keywords on well-formatted resumes in 10 of 12 test pairs. Score numbers differed (ATSChecker uses a 0–100 scale; Jobscan uses its own match rate), but relative ranking was consistent.
- Both correctly identified two-column and image-heavy PDFs as parsing risks. ATSChecker's formatting report was more explicit about which sections would reorder; Jobscan flagged "parse rate" issues with less section-level detail.
- Median scan time: ATSChecker 58 seconds, Jobscan 72 seconds (including page load and report render). Variance was higher on Jobscan due to additional upsell prompts in the UI flow.
- We did not test LinkedIn or cover letter features — those are Jobscan exclusives and outside ATSChecker's scope.
We are the makers of ATSChecker, so we have a bias toward our product. We publish this methodology so you can verify claims independently. No resume checker — including ours — can simulate every ATS vendor's exact parser. Treat scores as directional, not guarantees.
Who should use which tool
Choose ATSChecker if you:
- Want job-specific matching without uploading your resume to a server
- Need fast feedback (~60 seconds) before each application
- Prefer a focused tool at $9.99/month over a $49.95/month suite
- Already have a LinkedIn profile and cover letter workflow elsewhere
Choose Jobscan if you:
- Want LinkedIn optimization and cover letter tools in one subscription
- Are comfortable with cloud-based resume processing
- Value brand recognition and a larger established user community
- Need job tracking and application management features
Many job seekers use a free scan on both tools for the same JD before deciding. That is a reasonable approach — just paste the same job description and compare which report is more actionable for your situation.
Verdict
Jobscan remains the most feature-complete career optimization platform. ATSChecker is the better fit for applicants who prioritize privacy, speed, and price for the specific task of matching a resume to a job description. Neither tool replaces tailoring your resume with strong bullets and clean formatting — they help you verify that tailoring worked before you hit submit.

Frequently asked questions
Both tools analyze keyword overlap and formatting, but they use different scoring models. In our tests, both flagged the same major issues (missing keywords, two-column layouts). ATSChecker emphasizes job-specific matching against a pasted job description; Jobscan offers broader career tooling. Neither guarantees interview outcomes.
