Quick answer

Resume Worded is an AI writing coach: it scores bullet impact, suggests rewrites, and offers targeted resume analysis. ATSChecker is an ATS readiness scanner — job-specific keyword matching, formatting checks, and browser-local parsing at $9.99/month Pro with ~60-second results.

Use Resume Worded to improve how you write achievements. Use ATSChecker to verify your tailored resume will parse and rank for a specific posting.

What each tool does

Resume Worded built its reputation on instant feedback for resume bullets. Paste a bullet like "Responsible for managing team projects" and it suggests stronger alternatives with quantified impact. Its broader score evaluates clarity, brevity, and use of metrics across the full document.

The Targeted Resume feature compares your resume against a job description — functionally similar to what ATSChecker does as its primary workflow. But Resume Worded's core identity is writing improvement, not pre-submission ATS simulation.

ATSChecker treats the job description as the center of every scan. You paste the full JD, upload your resume, and receive a match score with missing keywords, formatting warnings, and section-level parsing notes. All parsing happens in your browser. For formatting fundamentals, see our ATS resume format guide.

Where each tool excels

Resume Worded strengths

  • Line-by-line bullet feedback with suggested rewrites
  • Quantification prompts ("Can you add a metric here?")
  • LinkedIn headline and summary optimization
  • General resume score independent of any job posting

ATSChecker strengths

  • Job-description-first workflow optimized for repeat applications
  • Formatting analysis that flags ATS parsing risks (two-column, images, text boxes)
  • Browser-local parsing — resume never uploaded to servers
  • ~60-second turnaround and $9.99/month Pro pricing

A practical combo: use Resume Worded to strengthen weak bullets during a resume refresh, then use ATSChecker to validate the final version against each job description before submitting.

How we tested

We ran ATSChecker and Resume Worded through parallel tests in June 2026.

Materials

  • 6 resumes with deliberately weak bullets ("Responsible for..." patterns)
  • 3 resumes with strong quantified bullets
  • 5 job descriptions: 2 engineering, 1 product, 1 marketing, 1 finance
  • 1 two-column PDF exported from a design template

Procedure

  1. Scored weak-bullet resumes in Resume Worded (general score mode)
  2. Ran Targeted Resume and ATSChecker scans against the same JDs
  3. Compared keyword gap lists and overall recommendations
  4. Submitted the two-column PDF to both tools

Results

  • Resume Worded correctly flagged 90%+ of weak bullets and suggested stronger alternatives. ATSChecker did not rewrite bullets — it flagged missing keywords those weak bullets failed to include.
  • On JD matching, both tools identified similar top missing keywords on 4 of 5 job descriptions. Wording differed but actionable terms overlapped significantly.
  • Only ATSChecker explicitly warned that the two-column PDF would scramble section order in Workday and Taleo parsers. Resume Worded's Targeted score was lower but did not cite layout as the cause.
  • Resume Worded general scores improved 15–30 points after applying its rewrite suggestions — a benefit ATSChecker does not provide.

Disclosure: we make ATSChecker. Resume Worded is a respected product with different strengths. Our test focused on overlap in JD matching, not Resume Worded's writing-coach capabilities where it clearly leads.

Verdict

Resume Worded helps you write better resumes. ATSChecker helps you confirm a finished resume matches a specific job posting and will parse cleanly. They solve adjacent problems, not identical ones.

Pricing and free tier comparison

Both tools offer limited free access with paid tiers for heavy job-search use. ATSChecker provides free job-specific scans with Pro at $9.99/month for unlimited matching and saved scan history. Resume Worded's free tier caps monthly scans and locks advanced Targeted Resume analysis behind Pro—check resumeworded.com for current pricing, which has changed over time.

If you apply to more than five roles per week, unlimited JD matching on ATSChecker typically costs less than comparable Resume Worded Pro plans while covering formatting analysis Resume Worded does not provide. If you are rebuilding a resume from scratch with weak bullets, Resume Worded's free general score may deliver more value before you start paying for either tool.

Many candidates use Resume Worded once during a resume rebuild, then switch to ATSChecker for the active application phase. The tools complement each other more than they compete.

Privacy and data handling

ATSChecker parses resumes locally in your browser—file contents are not uploaded to our servers for the core scan workflow. This matters when you are employed and applying discreetly, or when your resume contains confidential project details.

Resume Worded processes documents on their servers to generate AI feedback and rewrites. Review their privacy policy for retention and training data usage. Both approaches are standard in the market; choose based on your confidentiality requirements during an active search.

What Resume Worded does not replace

Resume Worded does not simulate employer-specific ATS parsers (Workday, Taleo, iCIMS) or flag two-column layout failures that scramble keyword association. Its Targeted Resume feature compares keywords but does not show category-level parsing warnings or plain-text extraction preview.

ATSChecker does not rewrite bullets, score LinkedIn profiles, or evaluate writing clarity independent of a job description. Candidates with weak achievement language still benefit from Resume Worded's coaching before running ATSChecker scans on the improved version.

Neither tool guarantees interviews. Both optimize inputs to a hiring process that still includes human judgment, timing, competition, and networking. Use tools to remove avoidable technical failures—then focus on interview preparation and referrals for roles where you genuinely qualify.

Example workflow: rebuild then validate

A typical effective sequence across a two-week resume refresh: Day 1–2, run Resume Worded general score and apply bullet rewrite suggestions to your five weakest lines. Day 3, convert to single-column ATS format if needed. Days 4–14, apply to target roles using ATSChecker for each posting—paste JD, scan, fix top three missing keywords, submit when at 75%+.

This workflow separates writing quality (Worded) from submission readiness (ATSChecker). Skipping the first step leaves weak verbs in otherwise keyword-aligned bullets; skipping the second submits polished prose that still fails parsing or misses role-specific terms.
